Lighting and Flower Lane
The famous Lighting and Flower Arrangement Lane display route has been set up in one of Kyoto's most popular tourist areas, parallel to the Higashiyama ridge between Kiyomizu Temple in the south and Shoren-in Temple in the north. This area is largely free of cars and thus perfect for a romantic, relaxing evening or a nighttime stroll. The roughly 5-km route will be lined with about 2,400 lanterns and large flower displays will be arranged along the route in a variety of attractive styles.
Hanatouro Highlights
Ikebana Promenade
In cooperation with Kyoto Ikebana Association, large scale flower arrangements will be displayed and lit-up.

Bamboo Lanterns along the Stream in Maruyama Park
About 500 bamboo lanterns will be arranged along the stream that flows through the upper part of Maruyama Park. Floating candles will be placed in the stream to create a fantasy of light.

Dance Dedication by Maiko & Geiko
Maiko and geiko from five Hanamachi (geisha district) show elegant dance for the deity of Yasaka Shrine. At Yasaka Shrine on Mar. 13, 14, 20, 21, 22, from 18:00 & 18:30.
Contemporary Ikebana Display
In cooperation with Kyoto Ikebana Association, 16 contemporary flower arrangements will be displayed in Maruyama Park.
Lantern Art Display
Original and artistic large lanterns created by Kyoto's art university students will lit on the way of Hanatouro.
Special Nighttime Opening
During Hanatouro, important temples and shrines in the area will open at night. This is a great opportunity to see stunning garden and building illuminations.

Participating Temples & Shrines
Shoren-in Temple
This is one of the five temples which strongly connected to the imperial family. There is a giant old Japanese cinnamon tree in the precinct. The temple buildings, garden and the tree are elegantly lit-up; 800 yen.
Chion-in Temple
The temple's massive San-mon Gate (National Treasure) and Yuzen-en garden are lit-up at night; 500 yen.
Yasaka Shrine
Yasaka Shrine is one of the most familiar shrines for Kyoto people. The main hall is specially opened (only during daytime) and people can see special structure of the shrine.
Kodai-ji Temple
This temple was founded by Nene, wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (famous samurai lord). Garden with pond, tea ceremony rooms and temple buildings are surrounded by bamboo forest and give elegant atmosphere; 600 yen.
Entoku-in Temple
This temple was a residence of Nene until the end of her life. One of the gardens is a national scenic beauty spot. There are gorgeous siding door paintings by famous modern Japanese artists; 500 yen.
Hokan-ji Temple
Temple's pagoda is a symbol of the area as Yasaka Pagoda. The temple has extraordinary long history started in the 6th century. Present pagoda was reconstructed by the 6th Ashikaga shogun in 1440; no entry to inside during night time.
Kiyomizu Temple
This is the most popular and well-known sightseeing spots of Kyoto. You can enjoy night view of the whole city from the wooden balcony; 400 yen.
