After a long day of touring in the heat, all you really want is to cool down and relax. Not much can beat sipping on a cold drink whilst taking in a beautiful view, so here's our pick of three of the best rooftop bars in Kyoto to do just that...

Unwind Atop this Historical Building Designed by Master Japanese Architect
Fortune Garden Kyoto
The Japanese architect, Goichi Takeda (1872-1927), who is still considered to be the master of modern Japanese architecture, completed the headquarters of Shimadzu Corporation in 1927. Since then, the building has witnessed the city's transformation for 90 years in the midst of downtown Kyoto, and in 2012, the building restarted its history as a sophisticated restaurant ''Fortune Garden Kyoto.''

If after enjoying delicious bistro style dishes in the restaurant you feel it's still a bit too early to go home, take an elevator to the rooftop where their secret ''Rooftop Garden'' dining bar welcomes you. Opened only during summer months, the Rooftop Garden serves an excellent variety of food from the kitchen downstairs as well as drinks. Wrap up your day with nice food and a cool drink amidst the history of modern Japan.

''Kanpai'' at Open-air Beer Gardens & Indoor Beer Halls in Kyoto!

Beer Gardens are a place for refreshing summer pleasure. They are usually located on rooftops of department stores, hotels and restaurant terraces. Beer Gardens usually offer nice views, good food and drink and a cool breeze. The all-you-can-drink style draft beer is usually the main highlight, but other drinks (alcoholic and not) are available. Many beer gardens offer a buffet style meal as well. Beer gardens are not only a great place to go with friends and co-workers, but sometimes a great place to make new friends as well; beer brings people together!
