The spring equinox day in March (March 20th this year) has a special meaning in Kyoto. It is the day of the ''Traditional Industry Day.'' A variety of events and exhibitions are organized around the day which showcases Kyoto artisan's highly skilled techniques.

Kyoto Saryo is one of the venues for the event and exhibits a wide range of traditional craft items. The first half of exhibition features young generation artisans who inherit spirit and techniques of craftsmanship of Kyoto. The latter half introduces the works by middle-career artisans who are chosen as a ''Craftsmen for the Future'' by the Kyoto City.

Take a Photo with the Virtual Maiko with ''eAR'' APP
Wish to meet a beautiful maiko? Then, come to the Kyoto Station Building, and you will have a chance to glimpse the pretty figure of a maiko with this special App, ''eAR.'' Just run the app while you walk around the Kyoto Station, and a lovely virtual maiko will appear on the screen! Not only can you capture her in the photo, but you can even see her greet you and dance! What is more, you can join in the photo or video and can create special images with the maiko as a keepsake.

Graphical Illumination ''PLUS''
on the Big Stairway

The artistic graphical illumination on the big stairway was began in 2012 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Kyoto Station Building. Now, after 5 years, the Kyoto Station Building is celebrating its 20th anniversary and the illumination has become even more beautiful and attractive with new graphical images and music. The main stairway (125 steps) is illuminated with approx. 15,000 LED lights along with elegant music. Enjoy the artistic seasonal illuminations of Kyoto.

Special illumination: 18:00-22:00 (17:00-22:00 until Mar. 3)
