The Beauty of Japanese Modern Architecture

Until Aug. 21, Time: 10:00-19:00
Venue: In front of the Kyoto-station-building Information Center

Shoei-kan Building (Important Cultural Property)

Kyoto is a treasure house of traditional Japanese architecture such as temples, shrines, and machiya houses. At the same time, Kyoto has always been a pioneering and innovative city; with early appearances of a modern hydropower plant and tram system very early on in Japan. Much of the modern architecture in the city attests to the great development of Kyoto through the Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods.

Chapel (Important Cultural Property)

This exhibition introduces Kyoto's wellpreserved modern architecture from the Meiji to Showa periods within a panel exhibition. Learn about Kyoto's valuable traditional and cultural aspects through the exhibition.

Hosted by Kyoto Station Building Development Co., Ltd., West Japan Railway Company Cooperation: Kyoto City Tourism Association

Referring to a way of life fundamental to Kyoto culture and nurtured by the city's artisans, the word ''Bifu'' can be translated to ''lovely ways'' or ''beautiful customs.'' The KYOTO BIFU exhibitions at Kyoto Station Building introduce ''Bifu'' in its various forms, both contemporary and traditional. Particularly, they focus on the works of artisans who embody this philosophy and, in turn, have come to represent the Kyoto way of life.
