WALK IN KYOTO TALK IN ENGLISH
This classic walk through many of Kyoto's quiet neighborhoors is led by Johnnie Hirooka or Johnnie Hillwalker, a veteran tour guide with more than 40 years of experience.

His guided walk is held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from March-November (no walk on national holidays). Rain or shine the walk lasts about 5 hours, 3 kilometers slow and flat walk. As part of the walk, visitors will be able to visit Higashi Hongan-ji Temple, 3 Shinto Shrines and 4 workshops in backstreets (pamphlets available at hotel & ryokans). The walk ends near Kiyomizu Temple. Johnnie's detailed pamphlet is available at most large hotels or ryokan. The walk starts at 10:00-10:15 at a small, 10 steps down square 100 steps out of JR KYOTO STATION. Getting to the west gate of Yasaka Shrine
Take Kyoto City Bus #206 from JR Kyoto Station; get off at Gion, or a 10-min. walk from Keihan Shijo Station.
Go up the stairs and the meeting point is behind the guardian dog stone statue on the left side of the gate.

Zen Meditation and Temple Tour in English at Shunko-in Temple
Shunko-in Temple (the temple of the spring ray) is a very special temple which hosts many important artistic and cultural properties related to Zen Buddhism and it is also connected to Shinto and Christianity. The temple's American-educated vice-abbot will provide detailed English guidance in the temple and you can try Zen meditation.
